Wolverine (2026) Review

It feels like Wolverine has been in development for a long time now and with the very popular Spider-Man games setting the benchmark for Insomniacs comic book games there are high standards for this game. I have played through the game and here is my review for Wolverine. The premise of the game sees Wolverine team up with his former mutant allies to save his friends and maybe find a new purpose. 

Characters

The great Liam McIntyre takes on the role as Wolverine/Logan and he is superb. He really nails the character of Wolverine and the depth that comes to the character. He has super character development and really nailed the nuance of the character. But he also is brilliant when he unleashes the violent ferocity of the character and this was a character that I found really easy to support. 

Jean Grey plays a big part in the game and I thought this is maybe the best depiction I have seen of the character. Krizia Bajos does a wonderful job showing a more aggressive side of the character and I love the dynamic between her and Logan in the game. 

The busiest voice actor in gaming Troy Baker plays Nathaniel Essex and he is great in the role. He kind of fills the Professor X role in bringing mutants together and Baker really nails it with his depiction of the character. 

Mystique is seen as more of an ally to Logan this time and though she doesn't have a tonne of screen time, I thought she was a pretty memorable part of the game and you really do understand her motivations as the game progresses and how desperate she truly gets. 

Story

The story is good. I loved the dynamic between Logan and Jean, it has been forced in films before but it really works here and feels appropriate for the story that they are telling. It has some great emotional moments and it does have some pretty high stakes and some pretty interesting storytelling with a worthy ending. 

Side Activities

The main side activity in this game is the nightmare rooms that are basically just challenge maps and they are fun and just fine, adding a little bit of variation to the game. But this game feels pretty devoid of content and I think it had so much potential to have more open world elements and side content to make this game feel longer and more worthy of the value. 

Gameplay

The gameplay is really violent and on a base level is really fun. There is no doubt that it feels like you are Wolverine and you are brutally killing bad guys in some pretty glorious ways. However, one thing the critics did great right is that it does get a bit repetitive and becomes extremely hand holding making it lacking any real challenge which is a shame because what is here is good. 

Style

The style has some good elements to it. The violence is incredibly well handled and the Cutscenes are great and really makes the story better with how it is visualised. But the game is just too short and it didn't even clock in at 15 hours which makes elements of the game feel underdeveloped. 

Overall

Overall, Wolverine is a good game with a lot of positives. It is better then the critics say and has great characters and a good story but it does fall short in other elements. I think if they ever make another game they just need to make slight adjustments and this could be truly legendary.

Star Wars Zero Company (2026) Review

It has been a really interesting time for Star Wars Video Games and I think it is fair to say that it has been a mixed bag.  I am a big fan of strategy games and this is the most strategy turn based game we have had with Star Wars so I had to play Zero Company and here is my review for the game. The premise of the game sees a rogue group of criminals hired by the republic to take down a dangerous separatist cult. 

Characters

You play as a character called Hawks, I chose to make a human male character and I really enjoyed his characterisation. He is a really interesting character and as the game progresses you learn more and more about his history and why he feels personally connected to the narrative. 

There are 6 main squad mates and I will go through a few of them and why they are so good. You have Trick who is a former clone trooper and I really enjoyed his journey in the game and his relationship with Hawks. If you know anything about Star Wars Lore, you will know that bad things happen to the clones and I love how this affects Trick.

Kabb Uppercut is the old man of the team and I loved the way he spoke in the game and how much of a grandad he feels to the group. He is a fun character and a great addition. 

Tel-Rea is a former Jedi Padawan who ends up joining the team and I think her addition really added another side of the Jedi and how a young padawan feels about what exactly goes on with the order. 

Jae, Cly and Luco are the other 3 teammates and though they maybe don't have as much of a presence they are all fantastic. Jae is probably the most dull but even she has a good character and motivation. Cly is a bounty hunter, who's reasons for being on the team are what makes her interesting. Similar with Luco who is a former Separatist but is hell bent on revenge. 

I give huge credit to this game for all of the original operators that it has in the game, so many interesting characters that are fully voiced and makes the game feel alive and really makes you want to keep them alive throughout. 

 Story

I really liked the individual stories for the characters and how you get to know your crew and their strengths and weaknesses. The story has some truly emotional moments and its links to The Clone Wars TV Show really strengthens its lore to bug fans of the franchise. But the overall narrative is pretty weak and the villains are easily the dullest part of the game. The game has a lacklustre ending and feels like its story should continue after the main story, but it just doesn't. 

Side Content

While you are going through the main story, you have options to complete other missions that don't link to the main story but are just to gain resources. It isn't the most creative but it is fun to just play the game. But it just feels like there was more they could have done with side content, for example there is no multiplayer which feels like a missed opportunity and it just feels like the team either run out of time or didn't have the resources to do this. 

Gameplay

The gameplay is excellent. The different characters and powers mean you have to think about your decisions and how to get the best out of your team. You have to use all your characters to your advantage against a good variety of opponents who offer different challenges. 

Style

The game looks pretty good and has numerous species both as allies and enemies. A good customisation system in both looks and weapons adds a lot and there are some really crisp cutscenes. The really sad part is that the game has way too many bugs and glitches. I suffered from 7 game ending bugs which made me replay large portions of the game which was super frustrating. 

Overall 

Overall, Star Wars Zero Company is a good game. It is a really fun experience and really gets you engrossed in the characters and the interesting gameplay. However, it just feels like the game was rushed out of the door and just didn't get the chance to be legendary like I think it really could have been.

Chad Powers Season 2 (2026) Review

I was one of the people that quite enjoyed the first season of Chad Powers but also accepting it wasn't exactly a show that you had to rush out and watch. But the second season of the show came out last week and with this season dropping all the episodes at once, I have watched the whole season and here is my review. The premise of the season sees Chad attempt to continue his success while deceiving his team and dealing with his new relationships. 

Main Character

Glen Powell is back as Russ Holiday/Chad Powers and he once again shows why he is one of the best leading men in Hollywood with a truly brilliant performance. We get more Russ this season and it really allows Powell to show his acting chops and really deliver both elements of the character to make this somehow one of the more interesting characters on TV. 

Supporting Characters

Perry Matfield plays Ricky and her character development is really good. Following the dramatic finale from last season, I am glad that it does feel pretty natural with their development and it isn't something that is just pretty generic and she is a great character in her own right. 

I found Danny Cruz played by Frankie A. Rodriguez really annoying in the first season but I am happy to say that he is much better here. I think they tone the character down a bit and give him proper development, especially with his relationship with Chad which is really well handled. 

Steve Zahn is back as Coach Hudson and his development is fantastic and he has real character development. He provides so much emotion to his performance and provides real heart as his character goes through a lot of issues himself. 

But the real surprise this season was the extended role for Gerry played by Colton Ryan. He becomes more of an antagonist to Chad and though he is clearly deluded and a bit crazy, there is some real sympathy for him and understanding of why he goes about his actions and Ryan deserves a lot of credit for that. 

Story

The show really changes its story from this silly comedy on whether Chad will be caught but into a story about people and the struggles they really go through and this is when the show is at its best. There is real character development and this is better then anything the comedy could ever do and I am really happy the show went in this direction. However, the show does occasionally have something that is just so ridiculous that it takes you out of the show or a generic plot point that isn't really necessary and that is a shame. 

Script

As I have alluded to above, the show moves more towards the dramatic nature and it knocks it out of the park and creates some truly emotional moments and dialogue that really makes these characters great. But, in its essence it wants to be a comedy and I just didn't really dig that much of it and only chuckled a few times. 

Style

The tone of the show is just a remarkable change into the dramatic and it is just what it needed and made it a better show. The American Football is still well made and the pacing of the show is excellent, especially with it all being dropped at the same time. 

Overall

Overall, Chad Powers Season 2 is a Great Season of Television. It is a huge improvement on the first season and makes this must watch TV, I had such a great time with it and I genuinely think it is the surprise of the year so far and I give it great credit for that and hope we see more Chad in the future.

The Dog Stars (2026) Review

Whenever Ridley Scott directs a movie, it is one that should be seen and I found the time to watch The Dog Stars in the cinema and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film sees a virus destroy the majority of humanity, but a grieving mechanic aims to look for a better life. 

Main Character

Jacob Elordi plays Hig and I thought he did a great job. It definitely took its time to make me care but as you learn more about the character and see Elordi's confidence grow it makes this a good lead character. 

Supporting Characters

Margaret Qualley plays Cima and I thought she was really good. We meet her character a bit later into the film but she adds some much needed energy and her chemistry with Elordi is really good. 

Josh Brolin plays Bangley here and he was just awesome. Brolin was clearly having a great time filming this and I thought he showed the most charisma. To be honest, I kind of wish he was in the film less but he is still entertaining when he is here. 

Guy Pearce plays Pops and he is also a great part of the cast. He comes in alongside Cima and I think he added a lot an had a strong relationship and dynamic with both Elordi and Qualley. 

Story

The story is a real mixed bag and that is going to be something to be said for the next three sections. 

It does a really good job of exploring grief and how humans react in a post apocalyptic world. However, the overall story is very drab and not cohesive at all. The side plot with Brolin is bizarre to say the least and at the end I wasn't really sure what exactly the point of the overall journey. 

Script

The script is okay, it does have some good emotional writing and makes you care about a few of the characters. But it just doesn't create a great story and it felt like a bit of a drab script that lacked a real punch which had the potential to really deliver. 

Style

The film looks good, but the style is easily the weakest part of the film. The pacing is incredibly slow and it felt like a much longer film then it actually is. It has a weird conflict of tone and it was just a weird watch in terms of its direction. 

Overall 

Overall, The Dog Stars is an Above Average Film. It has really good acting but falls pretty short on everything else. It is one of Ridley Scott's weakest films and it is a disappointment that is only worth giving a go when it comes to streaming and you like the book.

House of the Dragon Season 3 (2026) Review 

Ever since Game of Thrones ended, HBO have been looking for a new powerhouse in this universe and we are now into the third season of House of the Dragon and today saw the season finale and here is my review. The premise of the season sees after the events of season 2, Rhaenyra is mustering her forces together with the aim to take Kings Landing, finding new and old enemies knocking at her door. 

Main Character 

Emma D'Arcy is back as Rhaenyra and I thought she was great this season. It is a very different role for her then in the previous seasons. She has to really deal with more of the political side of the game and she becomes a bit more cold and calculated as the show goes on and I liked that about her character. 

Matt Smith plays Daemon again and he is my favourite character once again. He is no longer side lined like he was in Season 2 and he is back to his awesome and brutal self. He has a good character arc and it shows some new sides to the character and Smith just totally nails it. 

Supporting Characters

The newest character is Ormond Hightower and he is played by James Norton, with him being one of the best characters in the season. He is so smarmy but charismatic and it is hard to take your eyes off of this guy when he is on screen. 

Tom Glynn-Carney plays Ageon and though he was in a bad way at the end of last season he is still given a really interesting story here. It really seems him at the lowest of the low but I just think by the end it really is worthwhile and puts him in a really good position. 

Olivia Cooke plays Alicent again and she has way more scenes with Rhaenyra, which for me is when the character is at its best. She is solid in her role and though her story isn't the most glamorous it works and she gives it her all. 

I wanted to give a shout out to Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole. He has been a hated character over the last 3 seasons and I genuinely think this is due to his quality as an actor. He gives such a confident but unnerving performance this season and I really felt this was the most interesting he has ever been. 

I just wanted to say credit to every actor and actress for their performances this season and I still think the acting is the best part of the show. 

Story

The story is a bit of a mixed bag. It has much higher stakes then the previous season and I felt like they progressed the character development quite a lot and got the audience to a much better position then it was in last season. But, I still think the season wasn't as big as it could have done and there are just so many characters and arcs that it once again struggles to balance them. 

Script

The script is much better for this season. I think the dialogue is much more effective and really fits the characters. There were big moments and big character development that maybe wasn't present last season and that is good to see. 

Style

The show still has a a huge budget and it is really effective in the action scenes. They are brutal and really effective. However, the pacing isn't always great and I found certain parts of the show to be pretty slow and paced poorly. 

Overall

Overall, House of The Dragon Season 3 is a Great Season of Television. It gets back to the quality of the first season and does deliver for the most part. My hope is that they can improve more and really give us an even better season.

The Odyssey (2026) Review

For many years now, Christopher Nolan films have become a huge part of the Movie calendar for every film fan and this year we have the newest film in his directorial filmography - The Odyssey. I realise that I am super late to see this film but I have now watched one of the biggest films of the year and here is my review for The Odyssey. The premise of the film sees a Greek Commander and his crew attempt to make their way home, while trouble at home causes others to take big risks. 

Main Character

Matt Damon plays Odysseus and he is fantastic as the lead here. His character goes through a lot during the film and you really gain sympathy for him. He is more then this solider, he is quite a tragic character, he really cares about his soldiers and he just really struggles throughout the film and Damon really nails it and truly delivers as the main character here. 

Supporting Characters

Robert Pattison plays Antinous and boy if he wasn't there before this is a real star making performance for Pattison. He is one of the most hated villains I have seen in a movie and he really nails ever scene that he is in. I loved his performance and every scene that he was in. 

Tom Holland plays Telemachus and he is really great too. This is a really strong performance from him and it is genuinely really nice to see him thrive in a role that isn't Spider-Man. He has a solid story arc throughout the film and it was a nice coming of age story. 

Anne Hathaway plays Penelope and she is really great in this role. She really gives the emotional side of the character really well but is also strong and really feels like the strong queen that she is. It isn't a huge role but she is great and I think gives everything she has. 

This film has a huge cast and everybody is fantastic. Himesh Patel and John Leguizamo had surprisingly larger roles then I expected and really did great stuff. Elliot Page and John Bernthal added plenty to their roles as well. Charlize Theron and Zendaya have smaller roles but do some solid work. 

Story

The story has plenty going on and in my opinion it was all done really well. I was fascinated in watching Odysseus and his crews journey and it kept going with the twists and turns. The stuff involving Antinous and Telemachus could have been a bit dull but it really wasn't and added so much contrasting well with the main plot. It also has a really satisfying final act that really brought everything together really well. 

Script

The script is really good. There is so much drama here and really thought provoking which really established these characters. It has some really interesting writing and it didn't feel overplayed which I really appreciated and fit with the overall tone of the film. 

Style

The film looks absolutely stunning. It really takes some risks with its filmmaking and it really worked for me. It truly feels epic and fits the bill of this huge blockbuster and I feel like it has to be appreciated on the big screen. This film is almost 3 hours and the biggest compliment I can give it, is that it didn't feel like it and really had me engrossed throughout the entire thing. 

Overall

Overall, The Odyssey is an epic film that has to be seen on the big screen. Nolan has knocked it out of the park again and I loved watching The Odyssey and feel like this film will be remembered for a long time to come.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) Review

It has been five year since the excellent Spider-Man: No Way Home and we now have got our next Tom Holland led Spider-Man film with Brand New Day. I went into a packed cinema to watch it today and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film sees Peter Parker attempt to navigate adult life alone as he tries to balance being Spider-Man with the new things going on in his life. 

Main Character

I feel like every time there is a solo Spider-Man film led by Tom Holland, I always say that it is his best performance in the role and this is no different. He is excellent here and this is easily the darkest portrayal of the character that he has had to portray. There is so much going on with his character and Holland nails it and makes me really care about Peter and the struggles that he is in. 

Supporting Characters

Zendaya is back as MJ and I actually found her part in the film to be really well realised. Obviously, she can't remember who Peter is and I think that made the dynamic really different here and it felt like a natural progression for her character and their relationship. 

I was nervous when Jon Bernthal was announced to be playing The Punisher here, that they would neuter him. But I am happy to report that they don't and it feels like a slightly toned down version of the great character we have. The chemistry between Holland & Bernthal is off the charts and for me is one of the aspects that carries the film. 

Sadie Sink plays the villain here and I won't mention her role as it wasn't revealed before the films release. She was really good in the film, I think her character had a few issues but that doesn't take away the really good performance by Sink. 

Smaller roles for Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and Liz Colon-Zayas as DeWolff were fun characters and even though they weren't in the film that much, they added just about enough. 

Story

The story is good. I really liked the personal nature of Peter's story as he goes through these mental and physical issues that really change how he is seen as Spider-Man. I also liked Sadie Sink's characters overall story and arc throughout the last arc of the film. However, the film has way too much going on in it to really develop everything as much as it should. There are a few characters and story bits that could have been cut out of the film to give the major story beats a bit more depth and make it a really amazing story. 

Script

The script is great. As I mentioned above, this is probably the darkest Spider-Man film that has ever been made and the dialogue and writing really sells that and takes this usually light hearted character into some dark places. But it also knows when to have fun and the humour still works, making it an overall great experience. 

Style

The action scenes are superb. We had a change in director for this film and Destin Daniel Cretton who directed Shang-Chi shows his skill in directing action scenes and really adding some uniqueness to the character who has been on the big screen for over 25 years. The pacing is really good too, I was never bored and it kept me engaged throughout. 

Overall

Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a Fantastic Film that does the character justice. It keeps up the strong run of Tom Holland's Spider-Man films and is a really fun watch in the cinema. It is a truly great comic book film and definitely worth a watch.

Mexico 86 (2026) Review

I love Football and it has been great watching this World Cup and seeing the sport really thrive. I saw that there was a new football film coming to Netflix, so eventually I decided to watch the Spanish film Mexico 86 and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film shows how one man masterminded his way to get Mexico the World Cup in 1986. 

Main Character

The great Diego Luna plays Martin De La Torre and he is great. It is nice seeing him speak in his native tongue and really seem energised in the role. He is clearly passionate about playing this character and he gives it his all to give a pretty memorable main character. 

Supporting Characters

Karla Souza plays Susana and I thought she was good. She had good chemistry with Luna and their scenes together really added a lot to the film and some of the more impactful scenes. 

Daniel Gimenez Cacho plays Emilio Azcarraga who is basically De La Torre's boss throughout the film. He was pretty good and fit into the role well. He is a pretty generic character but I did like his character and the way he is used here. 

There aren't really any other characters who have prominent roles which is a shame, and I wish we could have seen some more characters developed but the film rushes through to avoid all of that. 

Story

The story is easily the weakest part of the film. I have no doubt that this could be an interesting story and I am sure the real story had its twists and turns. But the film rushes through everything and it doesn't allow anything to linger. When you start to get slightly interested in something, the film moves onto another aspect and it just doesn't give it the time it needs. 

Script

There is some decent dialogue here both from a comedic and dramatic effect. Obviously, it is a bit different when you are reading subtitles but I think again due to the pace of the film it led to things missing the mark and not quite delivering. 

Style

The style of the film at times does feel very slick, it has good direction to it and is pretty nice on the eye from a visual point of view. But as I have mentioned, its pacing is really poor. It rushes through so much and I really do feel like this could have been a Mini Series to fit in all of the interesting content. 

Overall

Overall, Mexico 86 is an Average Movie. It has a really good lead actor but other then that it doesn't offer to much. Even if you are a big Football fan like me, it isn't really worth your time.

The Invite (2026) Review

Wasn't sure what really to see at the Cinema this week, so I remembered that I saw the trailer for The Invite and was quite intrigued so I found the time to watch the film today and here is my review. The premise of the film sees a struggling couple have their neighbours over for dinner where things take some interesting turns. 

Main Character

Seth Rogan & Olivia Wilde play Joe & Angela and they are both really good. 

Starting with Rogan, he kind of plays the same role that he always does but it really works here. He gives charm and anger to his role and it just felt like a really human performance. Credit to Rogan for somewhat stepping out of his comfort zone for this role. 

Wilde not only stars but does a great job at directing the film. She is really struggling in the film and you can just tell that she is frustrated with her lot in life. She conveys it incredibly well and this is a great comeback for her. 

Supporting Characters

Penelope Cruz & Edward Norton play Pina & Hawk and they are excellent. 

They work so well in tandem here and the film does a great job in making them seem really interesting and making you question their characters and motivations. This is the best work that either performer has done in years and it is great to see them work. 

There is literally nobody else in the film and credit to the 4 actors for their excellent performances that really carry the film. 

Story

The story is interesting. It is intense throughout and keeps you on your toes. It has twists and turns and this is really driven by the excellent acting. However, by the end of the film it feels pretty low stakes and though I liked the ending it definitely made me question parts of the film. 

Script

With a film that has very few actors in one location it heavily relies on the writing and this film excels at it. It is so well written and has a great mix of humour and drama, the biggest credit I can give is that it feels very real and just like people would talk in real life. 

Style

The style of the film is pretty fascinating. It is really well directed and I really liked how the film flowed as a whole and took this interesting concept and run with it. But it does have a slight pacing with it, I mean it barely goes above 90 mins but it still lulls at times. 

Overall

Overall, The Invite is a Great Film that really forces you to focus. It has great acting and writing and if you have patience then it is really worth a watch.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 (2026) Review

After watching the first season of the show for preparation, I have now watched the second season of Avatar: The Last Airbender and here is my review. The premise of the season sees Aang continue to learn to bend the different elements, when he must try to find a new Earthbending teacher. 

Main Character

Gordon Cormier is back as Aang and he is a lot older here. It actually took me a minute to get used to an older Avatar but it really worked and I felt like this as a more mature version of the character. He feels more human this season and as he grows up he makes mistakes and realises what is important. 

Supporting Characters

Kiawentiio is back as Katara and she is a good character. She has a story arc that involves her trying to step us and being more of a hero. It continues her arc from the first season and I think she does a pretty good job with it. 

Ian Ousley reprises his role as Sokka and he is a fun part of the show. He is kind of given a story arc but it isn't really in depth and it feels like he is slightly moved to more comic relief. I like him in the role and think he is clearly having fun. 

A real show stealer is Miyako as Toph and she was such a fun addition to the cast. She has great lines and a great character and I think this show really needed her. She adds so much and she really owns every scene that she is in. 

Dallas Liu is back as Zucko and they decide to take the character in an interesting direction. Liu does his best and does a good job in the role and I thought like they added some depth to the character. 

The rest of the cast are all also great and the acting and characters are the real strength of the show. 

Story

The story has some okay character arcs, mainly for Aang, Katara and Toph. They are developed and given enough time to make you care about their progression. But some of the character arcs aren't handled so well, mainly Zucko's. The ending of his arc was just confusing and I didn't like it at all. The story feels like its just build-up for another season and I thought the ending was incredibly rushed and forced. 

Script

The script is okay, it is more serious this season and has quite a bit of seriousness to it that is handled well. The humour is a mixed bag and okay at times, but it is the inconsistency of those character arcs that left me frustrated with the writing. 

Style

The show has clearly got a bigger budget this season and it looks amazing. The action scenes are so much better then the first season and way more creative. It was great seeing more action and different powers being used. However, the season has awful pacing. The first few episodes move at a breakneck pace, but then it really slows down and then the last episode rushes towards its conclusion. 

Overall

Overall, Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 is another good season of television. It hasn't really improved from the first season which is a shame. But it is still an enjoyable watch and a fun time.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 (2024) Review

The 2nd season of Avatar: The Last Airbender came to Netflix recently and I am interested in the franchise, so I thought that I would go back and watch the first season, so I can watch the new season. I finished the season this morning and here is my review for the first season of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The premise of the show sees after 100 years missing, The Avatar returns and aims to save the world from The Fire Nation. 

Main Character

Gordon Cormier plays Aang and he is good in the role. I liked Aang and I thought the balance of likeability and depth was there and credit to the young actor for delivering that. I do wish there had been more focus on Aang's story but it is nothing to take away from a good lead character. 

Supporting Characters

Kiawentiio plays Katara and she did a really good job here. We get a lot of character development with her and she saw the best progress over the show. I mean, I wish more focus had been on Aang instead but she did good work with what she was given. 

Ian Ousley plays Sokka and he was a good character and part of the crew. He has some character development but it isn't as strong as some of the other characters but he was a fun addition and a good character. 

Dallas Liu plays Prince Zuko and I thought he was a really cool character. Though he clearly has villainous origins, there is a lot of depth to him that makes him more then just a straight up villain. I liked the comparisons and mirroring between him and Aang. 

Paul Sun-Hyung Lee plays Iroh and I really liked him here. His relationship with Zuco adds humanity to both of them and expands the idea of The Fire Nation not being completely evil. He also adds some humour which is nice in a show like this. 

Story

The story is interesting. There is a lot of lore put onto the screen and I found a lot of it interesting as you get to learn about the world and how these different nations have ended up at war with each other. But, the story feels a bit like a side mission building towards a bigger event which I assume will happen in the second season, which made it a bit episodic. I also felt the development of Aang wasn't as big as I wanted and again feels like it is taking its time to get going. 

Script

The script is again okay, it has some funny moments and some dramatic moments but none of it really sticks. It isn't very memorable and holds back the story and characters from being better presented. 

Style

The show has pretty good action scenes that use the different powers pretty well. It makes for pretty creative and exciting action sequences. But the pacing is a bit slow, it does feel like the main story moves at a snail pace and it is all just set up for a second season. 

Overall

Overall, Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 is a good show and a fun watch. It does plenty right but it also makes some misfires and feels like setup, so hopefully the second season really delivers.

Supergirl (2026) Review

After her small cameo in Superman last year, I have been heavily anticipating Supergirl and the film came out last week. After getting through the heatwave, I found the chance to watch the film earlier today and here is my review for Supergirl. The premise of the film sees Supergirl team up with a new ally in order to aid her and save her closest ally. 

Main Character

Milly Alcock plays Supergirl and she is the best part of the film. She has lots of charisma and charm here and it makes her a fun character to root for. I think the film does a decent job in explaining her story and I thought this was a really fun new protagonist. 

Supporting Characters

David Corenswet as Superman was involved in the marketing and he is a glorified cameo but actually, I think it was a really effective appearance. They explore some interesting concepts and ideas and Corenswet is still awesome in the role. 

Jason Momoa gets his wish to play the Bounty Hunter Lobo and he is awesome in all the scenes he is in. He isn't in the film loads and there isn't really a great reason for him to be in the film but who cares because he is really good. 

Eve Ridley plays Ruthye and unfortunately her character is one of the weak elements of the film.  She is meant to be a sidekick to Supergirl but she is so bland and the writing for her is really undercooked. This made her an important part of the film that didn't click for me. 

Matthias Schoenaerts is the villain here as Krem and he is super bland and just you generic supervillain. There is nothing unique about him and nothing memorable about him which makes him utterly forgettable. 

Story

The story is okay. I liked Kara's story and I thought the mixture of her present day arc and her flashbacks on Krypton worked really well and I kind of wished we got a little more of it, and her character motivations are very personal and something everyone can relate to. But the rest of the story is bland and lacking any real substance. The villain is just here because we need a villain and the rest of it has little depth. 

Script

The script does have some fun and emotional dialogue. But I can't really tell if it is just Alcock's charisma or if it is good writing. It definitely missed at times and I would have liked some better writing to really give the actors more to work with. 

Style

The film looks decent enough, with different locations and some decent action scenes. I also thought the film breezed by and it is nice to have that. However, there was some really poor CGI used and there isn't really any memorable action scenes. The pacing, though fast is a bit all over the place and I think the film tries to do so much that it can't fit it all in. 

Overall

Overall, Supergirl is an Above Average Superhero Film. I think it is just totally serviceable which is a shame. Decent lead but I think this is a step back for the relatively new DC Universe. It is okay and I think it has good bits but I wouldn't rush to watch it and just wait for it to come to HBO Max.

Voicemails for Isabelle (2026) Review

Netflix releases lots of films over the year and some are more popular then others and over the last week this film has been very popular which has led me to watch it. So here is my review for Voicemails for Isabelle. The premise of the film sees a woman leave voicemails for her deceased sister, when a man realises he is the one getting the voicemails. 

Main Character

Zoey Deutch plays Jill and she is fantastic in this movie. She is literally the perfect romcom protagonist, but there is more to her and she is funny but has so much depth and emotion to her. This is an easy character to root for and this is a really big performance for her. 

Supporting Characters

Nick Robinson plays Wes and I thought he did a good job in his role. He isn't as big a standout as Deutch but he is good. The chemistry between the two of them is fantastic and he certainly plays a big part of that. 

Nick Offerman plays Chef Bastien and I just loved watching him in his smaller role. He is so dramatic and over the top. It made him really funny and I thought he had some of the funnier moments of the film. 

There are a lot of smaller roles but they are all performed really well and everyone does a good job in the film. 

Story

This film does a really good job of showing the grief and despair that Jill is going through but in a really human way. The dynamic between Jill and Wes is really good and both performers have really good chemistry as I mentioned above. However, this is a RomCom and it is a pretty generic plot and though executed well it made it incredibly predictable and it just holds it back a bit. 

Script

The script is excellent, the balance between drama and humour is really well realised. It hit all the emotions but it didn't feel forced. It felt like these were real people and they talked like real people and I really appreciated that. 

Style

The film is paced pretty well and I was pretty engaged throughout. It had some nice backdrops but It does feel very much like a made to Netflix film and I think it can't quite rise above it. I also wish the first act was a bit shorter and I think that it really would have helped the film.

Overall

Overall, Voicemails for Isabelle is a Great Film and one of the shocks of 2026 so far. I had a great time with the film and felt like it was a great watch that people should give a go, even if you aren't a huge fan of the genre.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026)

I have spent the last month or so watching the Amazon Prime show Jack Ryan and that was in prep to watch this film. Today, I watched Jack Ryan: Ghost War and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film sees Jack dragged back into working with The CIA to stop an old enemy from Greers past. 

Main Character

John Krasinski is back as Jack Ryan and this is one of his better performances in the role. He seemed to have a bit more life to him here and the charisma was really back. There wasn't loads of character development and I do wish there were more chances for him to be an analyst but overall I really liked his performance here.

Supporting Characters

Wendell Pierce is back as James Greer and to be honest it feels like the emotional impact of the film relies on him. I feel like he could play this role in his sleep and he is great again. There are some good scenes with him and I would say he is the real heart of the film.

Sienna Miller joins the cast as Emma Marlow and I liked her addition to the group. They like to compare her to Ryan and I think she did a good enough job and was a worthwhile addition to the cast. 

Michael Kelly reprises his role as Mike November and he is just so much fun in his role and I think he was clearly enjoying being back in the role. The chemistry between him, Krasinski and Pierce is off the charts and really carries this film. 

Story

The story of Greer and his connection to the villains was well realised and I think they did just about enough to add a personal element to the story. However, this plot is pretty paper thin and is definitely leaning towards the more generic nature of action films with the ending being a bit too clean and rushed for me. Also, an event that takes place in the film that annoyed me and felt forced to just add some emotional weight. 

Script

The script is okay, I have to say that the dialogue is a lot sharper and quicker then it was in the show with more humour. There was some decent drama, mainly through Greer and his situation. But I wish Jack has more drama in the show and that their had been higher stakes for what was exactly going on. 

Style

There was some good action scenes here that definitely kept me on edge and there were a lot which made the film move at a quicker pace then the show. It was really nice to feel like this film was higher paced and kept me pretty invested throughout. Though, the film does feel like an extended TV Episode of the show and I wish it had got a bit of a bigger budget to make it feel really like a major film. 

Overall

Overall, Jack Ryan: Ghost War is a good action film. I think I am in the minority, that I actually enjoyed watching this film and think if you are a fan of the show you will enjoy it too. It isn't blessed with a great script or plot but it has good performances and fun action and that was enough for me here.

Jack Ryan Season 4 (2023) Review

It has taken me a while but I have finally finished the Amazon Prime Jack Ryan show, finishing Season 4 today. So after watching all six episodes here is my review for the final season of Jack Ryan. The premise of the season sees Jack Ryan named Deputy Director of The CIA when he comes across a plot that could even come from within his organisation. 

Main Character

John Krasinski is back a Jack Ryan and to be honest I think this is his weakest portrayal of the character. I think he is still decent and I think he clearly still cares, I just think the character wasn't particularly interesting this season. It seemed like he didn't really have much development and that he was just a vessel for the action. 

Supporting Characters

Michael Kelly as Mike November was one of the best additions to this show from Season 2 and he is back in another fun role this season. He adds that bit of a rogue element and I actually think he got more to do this season which was fun to see. 

Wendell Pearce is back as James Greer and he is still a lot of fun here. He isn't on screen as much with Jack but he is still really good and I thought Pearce still really cared about the role and gave enough to the character. 

The main new addition is Michael Pena as Chavez and this was a good role for him. It is more serious then most of the things that I have seen him in, but he really filled the role well. He has natural charisma here and was a fun addition to the crew. 

Story

The story is easily the worst part of the show and it is absolutely nonsensical and confusing. It has so many pans in the fire that it doesn't really deliver on any of them. The overall plot involving the villains is underdeveloped and just feels like your generic end of the world stuff. Then we got the stuff going on in the CIA which should have been interesting but is again underdeveloped and uninteresting. 

Script

The script is okay, it has some fun one liners and okay drama. But it never hits the heights in both departments, mixed with a convoluted story makes it just some okay writing. 

Style

There is no doubt that this show has the larger scale feel with cool action sequences that really throw everything at you. There is less episodes this season and I think that might have been why certain story arcs are underdeveloped and not even finished. 

Overall

Overall, Jack Ryan Season 4 is an Average show that is the weakest season of the show. It is a shame that this show couldn't deliver on its final season and feels like it goes out on a whimper instead of a bang.

Office Romance (2026) 

As always, Netflix produces plenty of films over the year and they manage to convince some pretty big performers to be involved. The newest one being Office Romance and I watched it today, so here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a new lawyer join an airline company, issues come up when he starts to become infatuated with the boss of the company. 

Main Character

Jennifer Lopez plays Jackie Cruz and she is pretty decent. She is funny and the majority of the story really focuses on her feelings towards the situation and she is fine. She has some decent comedic moments and easily she is at her best when she is with Brett Goldstein. 

Brett Goldstein plays Daniel Blanchflower and this is clearly a passion project of his as he was one of the writers for the film. He is fantastic in this film and just really delivers with his comedic delivery and timing. I really enjoyed his performance and character. 

Supporting Characters

Betty Gilpin plays Sydney Bloom and to be honest she was a real standout here and kind of overshadowed Jennifer Lopez with her performance. She has some of the best lines in the film and was just incredibly entertaining to watch and she really raised this film up. 

Jodie Whittaker plays Lizzy and I liked her in this role. This is certainly an edgier role for her and it was nice seeing her do something different, I mean she isn't a huge role. But I think she is a pretty important role for the film. 

The rest of the cast offer very little in terms of both humour and overall relevance. They have the great Edward James Olmos as Lopez' dad but barley use him and that part of the film did fall flat for me. 

Story

The story is exactly what you think it is going to be if you have ever seen a romcom. However, I think it actually does certain elements of the story well and by the end of the film I actually found myself rooting for the two of them. But this is one of the most generic films you have ever seen and I was just waiting for the expected to happen and it just follows every note that you would expect and means it fails to make it stand out. 

Script

The Script has some genuinely funny moments in it and some of the dialogue did make me laugh. There is also some good drama and as I mentioned above, I did end up wanting to see them succeed. But there are plenty of misses here both in drama and humour and it is a shame that it can't quite do enough to be a great script. 

Style

The film has good cinematography and I liked the different locations that were used. It is filmed well and I liked the sleekness of everything. It is just that the film is way too long, the first act in particular is the weakest and it takes its time to actually get to what you are waiting for. 

Overall

Overall, Office Romance is an Above Average Rom Com that ticks the boxes in what to expect from a film of this genre. If you like Rom Coms, I am sure you will like this but for everybody else it is skippable.

Disclosure Day (2026) Review

For years Steven Spielberg has been one of the best directors in Hollywood and we now have his newest film in Disclosure Day, I managed to watch it yesterday and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a Man and Woman on the run from a shadowy organisation who have world changing information. 

Main Character

Emily Blunt plays Margaret Fairchild and she is fantastic here. Blunt really provides an interesting performance and makes you care about the situation that she is put into. Her character is mysterious and the most interesting and she really nails it. 

Josh O'Connor plays Daniel Kellner and he is also really good. He is the character that really gets things going and we spend a lot of the first act with him. He isn't as interesting as Blunts character but he is a good character to follow. 

Supporting Characters

Colin Firth plays Noah Scanlon and it is actually quite refreshing to see him playing a villain here and I thought he did a good job. His character is good enough to get by and Firth seems to be enjoying the role. 

Eve Hewson plays Jane Blankenship and she actually has a much bigger role then expected. She is good and I thought her chemistry was pretty strong with O'Connor and it was nice to have another interesting character added here. 

Colman Domingo plays Hugo Wakefield and he isn't a huge part of the film but Domingo is fantastic like usual. He just has a charisma about him and I looked forward to every scene that he was in and I thought his role was pretty interesting here. 

It was also nice to see Wyatt Russell here and he provides the humour in the film and I was a bit sad that he has a pretty small role here. 

Story

The positive I can say for the story is the fact it is super intriguing. It offers very little information and it drops you in during the middle of the story and it made me think throughout and kept me on my toes. The issues are that as the film progresses it becomes a bit more nonsensical and goes towards more sci-fi tropes. I think the ending was also frustrating, I think I knew what the aim was but I just think it missed it and didn't nail the execution. 

Script

The script is a mixed bag to say the least. There are some interesting ideas here and I thought some of the emotion really paid off. But this film has very little levity to it apart from Wyatt Russell and some of the themes come across as forced. 

Style

This film is really well made and directed. It has beautiful cinematography and good action scenes mixed with a great score by the amazing John Williams. However, the film is too long and really drags. By the time you get to the end, you will be tired because of the slower paced film beforehand and I think it does hurt the overall ending. 

Overall

Overall, Disclosure Day is a good film. This film has really good acting and some decent other parts that if you are interested could be worth a watch. But this is not Spielberg at his best and won't be among his most memorable work.

Masters of the Universe (2026) Review 

Along many films this year, we have another reboot of an old franchise with the new Masters of the Universe film. I was a fan of this franchise as a child so I had some prior knowledge of the subject but apart from watching the pretty poor Netflix show, I haven't seen much. I found the time to go and see the film, so here is my review for Masters of the Universe. The premise of the film sees a regular man attempt to return to his magical homeland and stop the evil forces from subjugating the people. 

Main Character

Nicholas Galitzine plays Adam and he does a great job here. You really do end up rooting for him and he is just very charming in his role and feels like a natural fit. The character goes through a pretty basic story arc but it works and Galitzine is a strong lead. 

Supporting Characters

Camila Mendes plays Teela and she was a fun character here. She has really good chemistry with Galitzine and was a pretty cool character that didn't overshadow him but also provided plenty to the film. 

Idris Elba plays Duncan and I thought he was fantastic. Elba is genuinely one of the best actors at the moment and he nails this role. His character is awesome in the action scenes and actually has a story arc that I got behind and anything with Elba in is worth a watch. 

Alison Brie plays Evil-Lyn and she is so over the top but it just works. She is pretty engrossing to watch on screen and it is hard to take your eyes off her. She isn't the most important villain but she is a lot of fun to watch. 

I have been pretty critical of Jared Leto over the last few years but his performance as Skeletor is really great and he added so much life to the villain. He was intimidating and evil but also sarcastic and charming and it made this a really memorable villain.  

Story

The story works for the source material. Adam and Duncan have decent character arcs and the overall theme is one of triumph and positivity. However, it isn't exactly a riveting story. It is very predictable and if you have seen any family friendly adventure film you kind of know everything that is going to happen before it does. 

Script

The script is okay, it was one of those films that clearly took inspiration from The Marvel Cinematic Universe with its humour and sometimes it worked and made me laugh and sometimes it didn't. The same with the drama, some times it worked and sometimes it felt pretty forced and out of place. 

Style

The style also clearly takes inspiration from the MCU. There is a lot of CGI but I think it is necessary and I really like the world that they created here and it had really fun and well filmed action sequences. The film does have some issues with its pacing though, it is a bit uneven and makes the film feel a bit janky. 

Overall

Overall, Masters of the Universe is a good film and a lot of fun to watch. It has its issues but it is a good film and one that I would encourage for a watch and hopefully we will get more from this franchise in the future.

Dear England (2026) Review

I am a huge football fan, some would say I am obsessed with it. With the World Cup starting next week it feels appropriate that this show has made its way to the BBC. Originally, a stage play we now have a miniseries of Dear England and I watched all 4 of the episodes and here is my review for it. The premise of the show follows the story of Gareth Southgate as he becomes the new England manager, he fights his own demons to try and improve the results for the players and the nation. 

Main Character

Joseph Fiennes plays Gareth Southgate and this is an incredible performance. There were times where I literally thought it was Southgate on screen, he encapsulates this person incredibly well and it added more layers to the story of Southgate. I felt plenty of sympathy for him and Fiennes really knocks it out of the park here. 

Supporting Characters

Jodie Whittaker plays Pippa Grange and she is also really good in her role. It was actually smaller then I originally expected but she has a really important role and is a perfect foil for Southgate. Whittaker and Fiennes have excellent chemistry and work really well together. 

Daniel Ryan plays Steve Holland and I actually thought he was really good. He was assistant manager to Southgate and I actually think the show really understood the relationship between the two of them and handled it well. 

Harry Kane is probably the player that is focused on the most and he is played by Will Antenbring and I thought he probably did the best part as one of the real life players. He does a good job in the role and actually feels like Kane and does the best job. 

Overall, the players are certainly a mixed bag with some of them being well realised, with some being poorly realised and then some being completely ignored which was a bit of a shame. 

Story

The story is well handled throughout. It really shows the journey that Southgate and some of the players went on over the 8 year period that they worked together. It shows just how much was needed to repair England's reputation over that time period. But I really do think there could have been more meat to the story, a lot of things happen and aren't really given the time to develop. There could have been more time to explore certain things that would have made this really interesting. 

Script

The script is pretty good, especially when dealing with the drama. It is a pretty serious show and I thought there was some excellent writing that really made me feel things when watching it. However, the same can't be said for some of the humour, it makes these people feel like caricatures at times and not real people which is a shame. 

Style

The show is paced pretty well and I never really found myself bored. It has to get through a lot over the 4 episodes and I think it did the best job it could have done. However, I wasn't a fan of the way they showed the games, a mixture between real footage and the actors made it confusing and quite jarring, I think they should have stuck to one or the other. 

Overall

Overall, Dear England is a good show that is a must for Football fans but can also be entertaining for anyone. I don't think it is perfect and has issues but this was a good watch and with it only being 4 episodes is one that is probably worth a go.

Jack Ryan Season 3 (2022) Review

I am slowly but surely getting through the Jack Ryan show and after a bit of a break, I have now finished the third season of the show and here is my review for the 3rd season of Jack Ryan. The premise of the season sees Jack go on the run as he attempts to stop a shadow organisation start World War 3. 

Main Character

John Krasinski is back again as Jack Ryan and he is just really good in this role. He just fits the role and it just feels incredibly natural for him. I wouldn't say that there are loads of character development but I feel like that was done in previous seasons and it is fun to just see him now as this action hero. 

Supporting Characters

Wendell Pierce is back as James Greer and it is nice to see him be his more confident self here after his journey through the 2nd season. He is great in the role and it is nice to see him just get a bit more of his own stuff to do. 

Michael Kelly is back as Mike and he is again a fun addition to the show. He isn't given anywhere near as much to do this season but he is good and I just liked the fact that he is back for the season. 

Betty Gabriel plays Ryans new boss Elizabeth Wright and by the end of the season I did like her character. It took a bit of time for me to warm up to her but she gets more likeable as the season goes on. 

James Cosmo plays Luka and he is easily the best character in the season. He has a really interesting character arc and I just thought that the show gave him plenty of depth and really shed a different light on him. 

Story

The story is okay, I did like how the show made it clear that it isn't a simple US versus Russia story and there is more layers to it. It has plenty going on and for the most part it keeps the energy going. The issue is that it does become a bit too complicated and I thought the ending of the season was again a bit too easy and like everything is wrapped up in a bow, similar to the previous seasons of the show. 

Script

The script is okay, it does nail some drama and makes you care about some of the characters and the situation they are put in. But it does nothing to stand out, also something I noticed early was that unlike previous seasons, characters wouldn't speak their native language to each other but all spoke English. It feels lazy and like it has less care then the previous seasons on this front. 

Style

There are some great action scenes in the show and I loved the Europe location, especially Prague which is focused on really well. Though the pacing isn't particularly good, I found it dragged a little bit and got stuck focusing on too many story arcs. 

Overall

Overall, Jack Ryan Season 3 is a good show that is an improvement on the previous season. It has better action and better characters so makes it a pretty watchable experience.
