Kraven The Hunter (2024) Review

Kraven The Hunter (2024) Review

Over the last few years, we have seen Sony attempt to make their own shared universe using Spider-Man villains and here is their latest and probably last attempt for the time being - Kraven The Hunter. With a lack of interest, I found the will to go and watch the film today and here is my review. The premise of the film sees after receiving super powers, Kraven goes on the hunt after people that do bad deeds.

Main Character

Aaron Talyor-Johnson plays Kraven and unfortunately he is incredibly boring in the role. He just seems to not really care about the role and that he is sleep walking through it just to get his pay check. I always thought he was a weird choice for the role and that is what came to pass. A big issue is the writing, the people who wrote this film know nothing about the character and changed him so much that he doesn't even feel like Kraven anymore and that is a big shame.

Supporting Characters

Fred Hechinger plays Dmitri Kravenoff and he does a decent job here. This film is built on family and the family relationships here and pretty much all of the heavy lifting comes from Hechinger and the next actor I will mention.

Russell Crowe plays Nikolai Kravenoff and though he has a slightly silly accent it works and Crowe shows he has star power. He is clearly the person who really cares about the film and his role which hasn't always been the case so credit to him for that.

Ariana DeBose plays Calypso and she is the most useless character in this film and I don't know why she was included. It just seemed like they needed a companion for Kraven, she never helps him and there is no real development and backstory for her character.

In the trailer it was revealed that Alessandro Nivola would be playing Aleksei Sytsevich AKA The Rhino, but this was not a version of The Rhino that comes across well at all. He is a bit of a weirdo and that actor really overplays it, it just feels nothing like the character in the comics which adds to the idea that the people making this film didn't really understand the characters.

Story

The story is completely nonsensical and is awful. They are forced to turn Kraven into this hero for justice which goes against the traditional nature of the character but the film is just dull and convoluted. They spend 30 mins trying to explain how he got his powers but they do it in such a poor way that I still don't understand it. The film rushes way too much and doesn't explain any of the characters and why I should care about what is going on.

Script

The Script is really bad. It tries some really bad humour, they try and make Kraven a bit funny which is again not like his character in the comics but none of it works and Taylor-Johnson doesn't deliver them very well. I didn't care about any of the characters or the situation they are put in and that makes it feel pretty lifeless.

Style

The film has some entertaining action sequences and a big part of that is the level of violence incorporated which makes it stands out, which is funny that is R-Rated but none of the Venom films were. But some of the action scenes are very short and just as they get going they stop and the CGI is pretty terrible throughout, especially that of Rhino, who looks like a cartoon character.

Overall

Overall, Kraven The Hunter is a really bad film. It has everything poor about it in a comic book film and it should never have been made. The action isn't good enough and the characters are not well realised leaving this an utter mess and one of the worst comic book films that you will ever see.

Borderlands (2024) Review

Borderlands (2024) Review

It seems that video game based TV Shows have finally started to get a bit of traction but I still think video game based films haven't quite found their feet and the next to try its go is Borderlands and I saw it today and here is my review for Borderlands. The premise of the film sees a group of misfits attempting to open a vault and keep it away from an evil corporation.

Main Character

Cate Blanchett plays Lilith and boy she really tries to make the best out of this role and the reason I am giving her some praise is just because of the care that Blanchett clearly has. However, Lilith is a dull character and one that becomes kind of absurd as the film progresses. I just didn't care about her and for your main protagonist that is not a good thing.

Supporting Characters

Ariana Greenblatt plays Tiny Tina and similar to Blanchett, you can see that she really cares and enjoying herself on screen and that makes her somewhat enjoyable. But her character is super unlikeable and I didn't really care much about her.

Kevin Hart plays Roland and this is probably the biggest miscast in the film. If you get a comedian like Kevin Hart then I would expect him to make me laugh but he was so boring and dull, his character is pretty serious and Hart offers literally nothing to the performance.

Jamie Lee Curtis plays Tannis and she gives a truly awful performance, her character is all over the place and just makes weird noises and has strange delivery of dialogue throughout. She is a terrible person but the film wants you to care, but you really won't.

Edgar Ramirez plays the villain Atlas and he is so dull its unbelievable. I honestly, can't believe this guy gets big roles as I don't think he has ever been good and that continues here. He is such a boring and generic bad guy that offers nothing to the film.

Jack Black voices the iconic character Claptrap and I found him super annoying in this film. I think if it had been in moderation it could have worked but he is all over this film and he just doesn't stop talking and the majority of his dialogue isn't funny which takes away from the whole thing.

Story

The story of the film is just garbage, it is the most boring and predictable plot line that you will see in a film. It is your traditional misfit gang that starts enemies and grow as the film progresses but it is really forced and I didn't care about any of the characters or their struggles. The final act is really stupid and predictable which encapsulates this film.

Script

The script has absolutely nothing to it. I don't think I laughed once and I didn't care about any of the characters through the drama and emotion. With this cast it needed good writing but it just isn't here and it adds to the overall woes of the film.

Style

The film has some decent action sequences, they are fun and do a somewhat good job of representing the games but there just aren't enough of them. The CGI is varied during the film, some of it is okay and some of it is rubbish. The film is really short and feels a bit rushed for sure, though with the quality I am glad it was shorter.

Overall

Overall, Borderlands is a truly awful movie which is such a shame because I really think there was potential here, really do avoid this film and with so much to watch in the cinema at the moment pick one of the other films which is hopefully better.

Morbius (2022) Review

Morbius (2022) Review

I have wanted to watch Morbius for years and never found the time, but a 13 hour flight was the perfect chance to watch this film that I have heard so much about in the past and here is my review for Morbius. The premise of the film sees a doctor try to cure himself of a blood disease but accidentally infects himself with Vampire Blood.

Main Character

Jared Leto plays Michael Morbius and I really didn't like him in this role. He is obviously a good actor but between Morbius and The Joker, I think he should stay away from comic book roles for the rest of time. I don't think he is helped by other things going on but he is really bland and there is just no reason to care or support Morbius and that is a shame.

Supporting Characters

Matt Smith plays Milo and he is so over the top that it is really cringe, but he is clearly really enjoying his screen time and giving it his all and he is the only person who can actually say this. His dynamic with Leto isn't particularly good but Smith has so much charisma that I couldn't stop watching it.

Adria Arjona plays Martine Bancroft and is basically here just to give a romance for Morbius. She is a talented actress but she offers nothing here and she is one of the duller characters that you will meet in any comic book film.

Jared Harris plays Emile Nicholas and I think he was okay here but he barely has any screen time. He feels like he is just a plot device for the story but I feel like Harris could have been a better part of the film and how he is used is a disappointment.

Tyrese Gibson plays Simon Stroud and this might be the most offensive performance in the film. Gibson is mainly known for his energetic role in The Fast & Furious films but here he is so boring and monotone that it makes me wonder why they even bothered casting him and he felt really out of place.

Story

The story is all over the place. The ideas presented here could have worked but they tried to do them all together which meant they didn't work. The focus should have been more on the relationship between Morbius and Milo and I mean it should have been written a lot better but it has a romantic story and seeing Morbius against the police. The plot doesn't make much sense and is another low point for the film.

Script

The script is also pretty bad, the drama didn't make me care about anybody in this film and the humour is super cringy. The blend of the two isn't handled well and the writing of the plot just makes no sense and it fits this films rubbish tone.

Style

Now there are a few decent action scenes and I enjoyed the fact that it pushed the envelope for its 12 rating which I do appreciate. But a lot of the CGI is rubbish and some of the action scenes are lacklustre. The films pacing is all over the place too, it felt really long even though it is actually a normal length film.

Overall

Overall, Morbius is a pretty terrible film that lives up to the expectations that I have been told. No good things come from this film and should be avoided at all cost.

Brazen (2022) Review

Brazen (2022) Review

This film premiered on Netflix a few days ago so I decided to watch Brazen and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees after a tragedy, an author who is an expert in murder mysteries aids the police in their attempts to find a killer.

Main Character

Alyssa Milano plays the lead character in this film and she is just really bad here. Lets face it the most famous thing she is known for these days is the fact that the ship in Guardians of The Galaxy is named after her not her current acting ability. She overacts throughout and her character is so infuriating and annoying to watch, she always thinks she is better then everybody else in the film and it comes off as pretentious.

Supporting Characters

The cast is small and unremarkable with their characters. The main one is the main detective played by Sam Page, the two of them are meant to have chemistry but they really don't and it kills this film. He is written badly and feels like a weak character despite the fact that he is meant to be the best detective they have which is laughable. The rest of the characters add little value and I just didn't care about anybody in this film and that was a big let down.

Story

The story at least has a bit of intrigue to it, the best thing I can say is that I slightly enjoyed watching the investigation into the case and how it links to together with other elements of the film. Unfortunately, though I worked out what was going on pretty quickly which made the reveal feel lacklustre to me.

Script

The script is bad, it does nothing to make itself too imaginative or creative. It is filled with a bunch of clichés with none of it working. The romance and humour fails and the drama overall misses the mark in my opinion.

Style

The film has some pretty good action sequences and I thought they did an effective job of showing this killer going after these woman, so that was one aspect that was handled well. But the film struggles with its pacing and really rushes the final act, the film also ends so abruptly that the film fails to explain what really happened and it makes you really wonder why you bothered.

Overall

Overall, Brazen is another awful Netflix film that should be avoided at all cost. Netflix make quality programming but they really have to improve some of these original films that are just rubbish.

Mother/Android (2022) Review

Mother/Android (2022) Review

This film made its way to Netflix recently and I have now watched Mother/Android and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film sees a pregnant woman and her boyfriend attempt to survive when Androids rebel on their human masters.

Main Character

Chloe Grace Moretz plays the lead character in this film and she does an okay job. When required she manages to deliver some emotion tot the role, especially towards to the end of the film. But there is no denying that this is just a really boring character and if it wasn't the fact that she was pregnant throughout there would be literally no reason to care.

Supporting Characters

Algee Smith plays her boyfriend and he is just such a bad character, the two of them end up arguing throughout the majority of the film. He also is incredibly selfish and basically does what we wants even though he isn't the one that is pregnant. Raul Castillo plays a character who turns up towards the end of the film and he is overacting every scene that he is in, his character is so absurd that it took me out of the film and just annoyed me. There isn't really anybody else in the film of any note which makes it really noticeable when the rest of the cast don't deliver.

Story

The story gets one positive and that is by making the main character a pregnant woman it adds an extra layer of tension to the majority of the film. But the film is truly nonsensical, the plot makes no sense, the whole story isn't explained. I mean why did the androids turn? I still don't know and I have watched the film all the way through, it misses the mark and gives this incredibly bland and stupid story.

Script

The script is awful, it is really drab and dull. There is no humour to talk of and the drama fails, you are meant to care about these characters and you just won't at all.

Style

The film looks cheap, there are meant to be androids but you barely see them and when you do the film does a poor job of showing there power. The action scenes fall really flat and are filmed poorly which means even if it has decent action scenes you wouldn't be able to see them. The film is also paced badly, with it being way too slow and it never manages to sink its claws into us as a viewer.

Overall

Overall, Mother/Android is a really bad film. It does nothing particularly well and don't waste your time with this rubbish.

Saw 4 (2007) Review

Saw 4 (2007) Review

Even though Spiral has been out for a few weeks, I have been really busy so I am having to catch up on the Saw films quite quickly and here is my review for Saw 4. The premise of the film sees a police officer have to take part in a game in order to try and save his two friends.

Main Character

There are many characters in this film but I guess I put him in the premise so Lyriq Bent plays Lieutenant Rigg and this is one boring character. Yes, he has been in the other Saw films but as a very small role and this film requires him to do more and it just doesn't work. He is an incredibly bland character that is just a police officer and has nothing remarkable about him in any way.

Supporting Characters

Even after the events of the last film, Tobin Bell is back as Jigsaw and the film uses him in a pretty bizarre way by trying to show more of his backstory and it just really didn't work for me. The rest of the cast offer pretty little, Costas Mandylor as Hoffman and Scott Patterson as Strahm play the other main roles but again there isn't much there, they are just generic police officers and I never really cared about the investigation or any of them as characters so it made it hard to stay invested as the film as a whole.

Story

The story isn't that great but there are some positives. In traditional Saw fashion, the last 10 mins are insane with reveals and gore and this film is no different with it being pretty effective, even if it doesn't all make sense. But the film really tries hard to connect everything from previous films and explore Jigsaws past that it bogs the film down and makes the continuity a bit hard to follow or gain a sense of. If you don't care about any of the characters it does make it difficult to get invested on the story that is being told.

Script

The script is pretty bad, the dialogue is basic and generic and the mapping out of the plot just doesn't work apart from that last 10 mins which is at least entertaining but a bit hard to understand. These films are forced to all connect and sometimes a bit too forcibly and it just doesn't quite work and forces you to try and remember everything that has taken place in previous films.

Style

Saw is know for its stylish executions and they are still here in all there gory nature and at least this element of the franchise is kept in tact and in full display here. But the film is paced poorly, and is sloppy in its execution which is in the nature of the last few films in this franchise.

Overall

Overall, Saw 4 is a really poor film that is sloppy and focuses on the gore instead of its characters and narrative and that isn't enough for me. If you like horror films like Saw then obviously this is up your street but for everybody else, avoid this one.

Six Minutes to Midnight (2021) Review

Six Minutes to Midnight (2021) Review

Sky have been releasing more of these original films and the next one is Six Minutes to Midnight and I watched it today and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a British teacher arrive at a school teaching Nazi girls before WW2 to find out exactly what is going on.

Main Character

Eddie Izzard is a good comic and comedic actor, there is very little doubt about that but they are just horribly miscast in this role. This character is incredibly serious and sombre and Izzard just can't deliver a strong emotional performance to make you care, they were involved in writing the film and producing it so I guess it was decided Izzard could just play the role but it was just not the right role and really hurt the film.

Supporting Characters

The best two supporting characters are played by James D'arcy and Carla Juni. They are okay in there roles and try their best with what they are given, in most films they would be just average characters but here they are the best parts of the film. Dame Judi Dench has a role here and I just felt like she was phoning it in and offers very little, I think everybody agrees she is a great actress but the last few years the projects she has chosen have been incredibly weak and she needs to do better or maybe just stop. Jim Broadbent has a small role and feels a bit out of place and could have easily been played by anybody. There is a group of girls here and I was puzzled by what the film was trying to do with their characters, I didn't care about any of them and I am not even sure if we were meant to which is a weaker element of the film.

Story

The story has some interesting elements to it and it is still amazing that films are telling stories from WW2 that actually happened that we know little about and there is clearly an interesting story here. It is just the film's execution of this story is bad, I didn't care about the characters and the film didn't do a good enough job of understanding the true significance of the plot and how it truly affected things.

Script

The script is incredibly bland, having Izzard involved you expect something decent but it isn't here at all and the dialogue is so weak. This film is really heavy on drama and none of it is handled well enough to make this a well written film.

Style

The film is only 90 minutes long but that doesn't stop it from being incredibly slow and boring. It takes so long for this film and its plot to even get started that the film struggled to keep me interested and thus made me clock out and care less until the showdown at the end of the film which wasn't particularly great.

Overall

Overall, Six Minutes to Midnight is a really poor film. I think in the hands of a better director and with actors more suited to the roles this could have been an interesting film but in its state this is one to miss.

Hubie Halloween (2020) Review

 Hubie Halloween (2020) Review

So Adam Sandler said if he didn't win the Oscar for his performance in Uncut Gems then he was going to make the worst film ever and here it is Hubie Halloween and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a man who loves Halloween but ridiculed amongst his town have to save the people from certain peril.

Main Character

It must be rare to see an actor give one of the best performances of the year for a film and then also give one of the worst performances of the year in another but Sandler has managed to do it. He is so bad here, it is like he is trying to challenge Water Boy but it doesn't work here in this day and age and it is horrendous here. The voice is so weird and he is actually quite hard to understand and even though you are clearly meant to care, never for one minute did I care about him, also for a guy who loves Halloween so much why does he get so scared of everything, it makes no sense.

Supporting Characters

There are some fun supporting characters here, mainly because of the shock value that they would actually be a part of this film, I mean it is full of comedic talent and they rise the film up a bit but not much. I don't want to spoil them just in case you don't know, because I didn't know and it made me enjoy this film a little bit, but then there are some really bad performances. Kevin James is used to being in Sandler films and he is just not funny here, he just phones it in and is happy to get another paycheck in another terrible film. Julie Bowen who I actually think is funny in Modern Family is also really bad here, she is so over the top and the writing for her character is also bad and makes her just seem so stupid.

Story

The story actually has quite a nice story to it about accepting others and not being mean to them due to insecurities about yourself, but that is all it has. The relationships between the characters is poor and the twist involving the villains is unnecessary and actually makes no sense and makes you scratching your head as to why certain things are here. I mean there is this romance between these two kids and it is such a weird thing to add here and adds nothing to the film at all, it feels like they had a 45 minute plot and had to pad out the remaining hour to make it a feature length film.

Script

Now the most important thing in a comedy, unless I have it wrong is to make you laugh and this film didn't make me laugh once, which means it fails. It is basic and not good humour, I would say it was made for kids but then it makes adult jokes and you just aren't sure who the hell this movie is for and why it even exists.

Style

Now the most important thing of a horror film is to be scary and this film fails that as well, so it fails as a comedy and a horror so this style is all over the place. Things just aren't scary or spooky at all and it makes this film feel way longer then it has any right to be and just don't bother with it.

Overall

Well I don't think it is the worst film ever but it is still awful and should be avoided at all cost. I know people will tell me just to turn my mind off and enjoy it for what it is, but no that excuse didn't work for The Wrong Missy and it doesn't work here and hopefully this crew just stops making these comedies and retire so we don't have to put up with this any more.

Secret Society Of Second Born Royals (2020) Review

Secret Society Of Second Born Royals (2020) Review

Let's face it Disney+ does not have many exclusives, if it wasn't for The Mandalorian, it probably wouldn't be worth it but today there is a new film out called Secret Society Of Second Born Royals and I have watched it and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a group of 2nd born royal family members find out they have super powers and must train to control them.

Main Character

Relatively unknown Peyton Elizabeth Lee plays the lead here and I didn't like her character at all in this film. Her character was just really annoying, she just comes across as very pretentious and above everybody else, if somebody disagrees with her she just storms off and acts very childish. They do nothing to make her interesting and make her stand out, we are meant to buy her as this leader of this group but she does nothing to deserve that and there is nothing about this character to attach yourself too.

Supporting Characters

There are a few okay performances here, Elodie Young who played Elektra in Daredevil does an okay job and if her character had been given more to do then maybe she could have risen this film up. Skylar Astin also does a fun job as the teacher of the group and provides a quirky but sometimes over the top which doesn't quite work. But my god the rest of the cast add nothing, the rest of the kids who make up the team are so generic, every stereotype that you can imagine is here and it goes exactly how you think and none of them can rise above and some of them are just really bad.

Story

The story had potential, but the issue is that there isn't an original bone in this films body, you have literally seen everything here and you have seen it done much better pretty much everywhere else. The training isn't particularly interesting and the villains plot and motivation is so dull and paint by numbers. The twists and turns are laughably bad even though the film thinks it is really clever and my god this film sequel baits so hard and it does not deserve it at all and I really hope there are no more films in this franchise.

Script

The script is also really bad, it makes the characters irritating and makes you not care about them at all. This film sets up a semi interesting world and does nothing with it, it just feels like the normal world which was a big waste of time. The drama is cringe and the drama isn't there to make you care at all.

Style

The style of them film has one or two okay action scenes that make you hate this film a little less then the rest of it. But then you see the CGI and realise this film doesn't have a budget for what it wants to do and it ends up looking really bad, also why did they pick powers we have seen before, just watch an X-Men film even the worse ones are better then this film.

Overall

Overall, this is an awful waste of time, if Disney wanted to create a franchise here they have failed miserably. Disney need to up their content on Disney+ or else it will literally just be Star Wars and Marvel keeping there streaming service alive, so avoid this film at all cost.

The Grudge (2020) Review

The Grudge (2020) Review

I have to admit out of all the genres of films there is Horror is my least favourite but I am going try and watch some more Horror movies to see if my opinion can be changed and it starts with the 2020 version of the film The Grudge and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a cursed house with a vengeful ghost that goes after everybody that enters.

Main Character

Now while watching the film it became difficult to pin down a main character but in the end I went with Andrea Riseborough who plays a detective and she is fine making her easily the best performance here. It is just you learn nothing about her character, and she disappears from the film for like 20 minutes which feels like forever and I feel like she was hurt by this film just being an utter mess in terms of its storytelling.

Supporting Characters

The Supporting cast is just a waist here, it is a bit surprising as there are some good actors such as John Cho and Lin Shaye but they are so uninspired and dull that the film gives you no reason to care. There are also some truly awful performances that are just laughably bad and really make this just seem like a silly film.

Story

The story is not only boring and one dimensional but it is so convoluted and makes no sense. The way the film is set up mixes flashbacks and present day but it presents it so badly that you don't even realise, plus it ends up with way too many characters making it hard to get invested with anybody. The whole motivations of The Ghost too is never explained and just feels like a way to have pointless horror.

Script

One thing that is usually a weakness in Horror Films is the script and this film is no different. The characters act really stupid and they are just laughably wooden and boring with no life into them at all.

Style

The style of any Horror film is important and there are some moments of genuine tension here but they are few and far between. If you like jump scares then this is the film for you, they are such a cheap scare and it becomes tiresome so quickly and it really hurts this film.

Overall

Overall, this is not the film to change my opinion on horror, it is truly terrible and just one of many cheaply made dull films. I would advise against watching this unless you love horror which means you have already sat through this snooze fest.

Artemis Fowl (2020) Review

Artemis Fowl (2020) Review

This film was meant to be released to cinema around this time but due to the pandemic Disney decided to put it on there streaming service Disney+ so here is my review for Artemis Fowl. The premise of the film sees a young man have to hunt down a secret society of fairies in order to locate his missing father.

Main Character

Young actor Ferdia Shaw plays the titular character and I don't want to be to harsh but he is not good in this film. He is such a bland character and you are literally given no reason to care at all, that is due to the poor pacing of the film but also due to his performance which isn't inspired at all. It takes all the interesting parts of the character from the book and waters them down to make him a really boring character.

Supporting Characters

Josh Gad has a pretty big role here and he did a good job here, not his best work but he is the most entertaining character here and the one who looks like he actually wants to be there and wants to try and make the film decent. Nonso Anozie does a decent job here too, we don't learn much about him but he has some moments to shine. Now onto the rest of the cast, Lara Mcdonell is here as a fairy and I didn't really care for her as a character, she doesn't get much development and the performance didn't do anything to stand out for me. Colin Farrell is in this film and he tries but he has nothing to work with and he is wasted here making it more frustrating to why he was even cast in this role in the first place. Then we get to Dame Judi Dench and wow she is terrible here, she has some weird Irish accent and has the worst dialogue imaginable to make this easily one of the worst performances that she has ever given.

Story

The story is so chopped up that you won't care about anything. First of all there is no indication as to really why Artemis is so intelligent and why exactly everything is going on, you are given no reason to care about anybody here and the plight that they are in. The issue is that with this film being rushed out I feel like plenty of scenes were left out which included character development scenes but they are not here and the film just makes no sense at times with a cringeworthy sequel bait ending which will never be followed up on.

Script

The script here is really poor, there is no humour and the drama is really weak as I said earlier which makes you not care about any of the characters. The screenplay is really poorly written and deserves all of the crticism that it gets.

Style

The style has some okay action sequences and some of the designs are good to see and have real potential. But the CGI doesn't always hold up and makes this film feel like it was from the 90's instead of 2020. The pacing of this film is also awful, it clocks in at 90 minutes and with the rush it feels like you learn nothing and aren't given a reason to remember this film.

Overall

Overall, this film is a waste of time. This film was clearly meant to be a start of a franchise but it won't be because it is a terrible film that had potential but was executed poorly and is not worth a watch.

The Last Days Of American Crime (2020) Review

The Last Days Of American Crime (2020) Review

This film hit Netflix today and I have had the chance to watch The Last Days Of American Crime and here is my review for it. The premise of the film sees a crew attempt to commit a heist just before a signal comes in to play to stop anybody from commiting a major crime.

Main Character

Edgar Ramirez plays the main character here and honestly I have never been a big fan of his, I just find him really boring to watch and this film is no different as he is such a boring lead character. There is nothing unique about him at all as a lead character and the film gives you no reason to care about him or why he is doing what he is doing so it leads you to become bored by him.

Supporting Characters

The great Sharlto Copley is in this film and when he is on the screen he is clearly the best actor here, I just don't really understand why he was here. His character plays no part in the plot really and it feels like a weird excuse to pad out the length by putting him in here. Anna Brewster plays Ramirez's love interest here and I mean she has the best motivations here, but they still don't work and I didn't care about their romance. There was just nothing there and no chemistry between the two performers to make it interesting or compelling. Michael Pitt plays there associate and he is that character who is just insane for being insane's sake, he has family issues but none of it is expanded enough for you to care and you really wonder why Ramirez's character even decides to work with him as it makes no sense.

Story

The premise of the film is pretty interesting but it is just executed so poorly, you don't care about the characters and the heist doesn't get the attention that it deserves so you aren't exactly clear why and what they are planning to do. There is a side plot with the police that isn't expanded at all and it feels like it is there for no real reason at all. The end of the film is crazy and tries to make you care about the characters but you just don't.

Script

The script is really boring here, the drama didn't connect with me or make me care about anything and there is literally no real humour making this a very sombre and frustrating experience.

Style

The style of the film has some decent action scenes that are really over the top making them fun experiences, it is just there aren't enough of them. Plus the film is 2 and a half hours which is absurd, it drags on to a slow painful death, the film should have known what it was and aimed for 2 hours or even a little less instead of dragging on with one of the slowest paced movies you will see all year.

Overall

Overall, this is a really poor film, so boring and so slow. It just about avoids a 1 rating because of some fun action scenes and Sharlto Copley but it was close because I was so bored watching this film and recommend nobody waste over 2 hours of there day with it.

Jurassic Park 3 (2001) Review

Jurassic Park 3 (2001) Review

Next in my Jurassic Park films is the one everybody regrets watching Jurassic Park 3 and here is my review for the film. Years after first going Jurassic Park, Dr Alan Grant goes to Isla Sorna, where Ian Malcolm went in The Lost World to show a couple around but they have alterior motives.

Main Character

Sam Neill is back as Alan Grant in this film and he really tries here. He brings his charm and gruff to the role like he did before and he is good in the role. But the issue here is just his character's motivations, there is absolutley no reason for him to logically go to the island and it goes against his character but the film does it anyway. Also you can see that he lacks a quality supporting cast to work off like he did in the original Jurassic Park film.

Supporting Characters

William H Macy and Tea Leoni play the couple and they are really bad in this film, they are annoying to watch and over the top to add to it. Plus this film tries to make you care about them even though they are clearly the villains here as they manipulate Alan Grant for there own needs making it hard for you to care abou them. There is also this character called Billy who is possibly the biggest idiot in the film, he is meant to be Dr Grant's assistant but he does everything against him and literally acts like an idiot even though he is meant to be an expert on dinosaurs. Just like the last film there are characters here who are clearly there to be cannon fodder for the dinosaurs and it is so obvious.

Story

As mentioned the story for Grant's motivation is awful, he literally says at the beginning of the movie he would never go back to the island and then 5 minutes later he is on his way to the island. Also making you try and care about the other characters fails and you really just don't, the intrigue from the first film is completley gone and this film feels like a prolonged chase scene with one of the most idiotic endings any film will ever have.

Script

The script is really bland here, gone is the whitt and clever dialogue and the drama and added is screams and pointless family drama. It feels like the screenwriters all changed for this film, oh wait they did, they got a new writing team who just did not understand how to write a script for a Jurassic Park film.

Style

The style of the film has some entertaining action sequences, the dinosaurs mostly look good but you can see here they are pretty much all CGI instead of the more practical methods of the past and it is clear to see. But the most crazy part of the film is that it barely clocks in at 90 minutes, it feels incredibly short for a Jurassic film and omits any interest and intrigue to make it a boring monster chasing movie.

Overall

Overall, this film is an insult to be called a Jurassic Park film and should be avoided at all cost. If you want to watch the franchise then you can ignore this one as it mostly feels like a standalone film in it's own right.

Dangerous Lies (2020) Review

Dangerous Lies (2020) Review

This film hit Netflix recently and I have now had the chance to watch the film Dangerous Lies and here is my review for it. The premise of the film a caregiver recieve her elderly patients estate which leads her into mistrusting everybody that she comes into contact with.

Main Character

Camila Mendes from the hit American show Riverdale plays the lead character here and she is okay. She is the most likeable person here and the character with the most logic to her even though there isn't that much. The problem is there is nothing remarkable about her character at all, her performance is actually quite wooden and even though she is a bit likeable the film doesn't give you a real reason to care about her or the plight that she is in.

Supporting Characters

It is nice to see Elliot Gould here, though he is not a large part I always enjoy seeing him on screen, the same could be said Jamie Chung from The Gifted a show I have good memories of. But the problem is that they have no characters, there is nobody interesting here and some characters do things that just make no sense, honestly pretty much every character in this film is an idiot it just depends how large an idiot that they are.

Story

Well here we go, this story is absolutley insane, it is one of the most unfocused and stupid films I have ever seen. There are plot points that are never finished, character motivations that make no sense and an ending that is laughable because of how bad it is. This is one of those films that tries to be really clever but ends up coming across as stupid and overcomplicated for no real reason.

Script

The script has nothing about, I didn't laugh at all and I didn't care about the drama. As I said the characters are boring but an interesting script could have made them better but it fails to do that.

Style

The film is just really boring, it feels really slow and tries to throw all these misdirects at you that you question why it is there. I even wonder why the first part of the film is even there as it doesn't add anything to the film and doesn't do anything to add to anything.

Overall

Overall, this is a really bad attempt at a suspenseful and who done it but if you want something to make you laugh then watch this film for the last act alone as it is stupidly funny, but try to avoid this one at all cost.

The American (2010) Review

The American (2010) Review

This film is one of the most watched on Netflix at the moment so I thought I would give The American a watch and here is my review for the film. The premise of the film sees a Spy have to move to Italy to take part in his final mission.

Main Character

George Clooney plays the main character in this film and he does an okay job, he isn't his usual charismatic self, with a more dramatic character and he does okay at times, you see he is trying to give a good performance even if that isn't totally possible. Though I have to say his character is incredibly boring, there is no depth to him at all, you learn nothing about his character or his motivations. He is a really poor spy and you even question how he even got this role in the first place.

Supporting Characters

The other characters are just as dull, it is pretty much a foreign supporting cast but none of them have any development either. There is a generic love interest and I swear every female character feels like they were created by a teenage boy as all they do is get naked and spend the film trying to get Clooney's attention.

Story

The story is so boring it is hard to explain, I have finished watching the film and I am still not sure what the plot was about. Why clooney is doing this job and why people are after him is never explained. Certain characters motivation including Clooney are so wishy washy and hard to understand, which is added even more with a very abrupt and lackluster ending.

Script

The script is incredibly bland, this film takes itself so seriously but provides nothing interesting, the fact is that Clooney's character has very little dialogue and nothing of interest to say, no in depth drama or comedy making this a boring script.

Style

The style for the film has some good cinematography and location, seeing Italy as the backdrop is nice and interesting but also a little quiet in terms of population. Now onto the pacing which is so slow, I get what they were going for with a slower more methodical pacing instead of an action heavy film but it doesn't work and makes this film feel incredibly slow and a drag to get to the end.

Overall

Overall, I don't understand why people have been watching this film as I think it is really bad, it is just really slow and an absolute drag to get through making this a film you should avoid.
