Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) Trailer Review

Deadpool & Wolverine is probably the most anticipated film of 2024 and yesterday we got another trailer for the film and there was plenty here to talk about so that is what I am going to do here. 

Hugh Jackman is back as Wolverine

Obviously, we already knew that Hugh Jackman would be making his return as Logan/Wolverine in this film and it has been a while since his last appearance in the role in Logan. He looks in fantastic shape and seems to be properly invested in giving his character one last great run. 

Deadpool's timeline is being destroyed

As we saw in the first trailer, Wade Wilson is recruited by the TVA to help protect the timeline. Even though this film is taking place after the events of Loki Season 2 it seems like everything is not going too well for the TVA. We see the party scenes with all of the characters from the previous Deadpool films and it seems like they are at risk of being destroyed like we see happen to several timelines in Loki. 

Wolverine was the cause of the destruction of his timeline

It is also confirmed that this is a variant of the Wolverine that we saw in the X-Men films previously. Deadpool mentions how Logan was the cause of the destruction of his world and I am excited to find out exactly how Wolverine caused this. If you know the Old Man Logan comics then I think they might follow the story arc to a certain extent. 

Wolverine and Deadpool fight in the void

Again, it was teased in the first trailer that Wolverine & Deadpool would have a fight in the void and that is confirmed here. The fight looks pretty violent and gruesome and I think that will be a glorious comic book battle, but the question will be how these two characters found there way into the void and will they end up escaping. 

Wolverine is in a comic book accurate costume

It has been glorious in this trailer to see Hugh Jackman finally get the chance to don a comic book accurate Yellow and Blue costume which he was never able to do before. He starts off with a long sleeve version but this trailer shows he loses the sleeves and it looks more out of the comics. All we are missing is the iconic helmet and I hope he wear it at least for a small time in the film. 

Deadpool & Wolverine team up to save the world

After there encounter where they are against each other, we see them reluctantly team up. Deadpool has no experience in saving the world, whereas Wolverine does and we know he has a guilty conscious because of what happens to his world. I am not sure whether they will ever be friends but their chemistry looks fantastic. 

Why is Deadpool fighting the TVA?

Similar to the first trailer, we see Deadpool killing TVA agents and the question has to be why? He is shown being recruited by them and working with Paradox. We do get a scene where Paradox scolds this version of Wolverine which makes me think that Deadpool will team up with Wolverine against The TVA'S orders. 

Alioth makes its return. 

In Loki, we saw the protector of Kang which was a huge death cloud in The Void that wiped out variants that got pruned by The TVA. We last saw it seemingly consuming Renslayer in the Loki Season 2 finale. It will probably try to consume Wolverine and Deadpool and it is cool to see its return. 

So many Cameos

This is probably the biggest discussion part of the trailer and that is when we see the villains base and the people outside of it. First of all the base is the head of Giant Man, which means that a version of the character was killed and used here. Outside of the base we see many figure from previous X-Men films, these include Azazel from X-Men First Class, Lady Deathstrike from X-2: X-Men United, Callisto from X-Men The Last Stand, Toad from X-Men & I think Sabretooth from X-Men. This is tonnes of characters and it will be interesting to see if they are played by the same actors as it is hard to tell here. 

We are introduced to Cassandra Nova

We get to see our first look of the villain which is Cassandra Nova, in the comics she is the evil sister of Charles Xavier with similar abilities and she is shown able to take on Wolverine. My theory is that she will have manipulated this version of Wolverine into helping destroying his world which as is very similar to what happened in Old Man Logan. 

We see Deadpool & Wolverine jumping into a portal

We see the characters trying to avoid Alioth by jumping through a portal. This portal looks just like the ones conjured by Doctor Strange. However, I actually think this will be Wong as he has kind of been the link between Marvel films recently and this could be the introduction of Deadpool & Wolverine into the MCU fully and maybe set up their future. 

Overall

Overall, this trailer is fantastic and has me absolutely buzzing for to see this film. I hope this is the last trailer we get and that we can watch the film with only theories and nothing concrete.
