Michael Keaton is in talks to return as Batman for The Flash film - what does this mean for the DCEU

So huge news came out of Hollywood last night is that Michael Keaton is in talks to reprise his role as Batman from the 1989 film in the upcoming DC film The Flash which will focus on the comic book story Flashpoint. Here I am going to look at the ways they could use Keaton and what his casting would mean for the future of this cinematic universe.

This means The Flash film is still happening

A few years ago it was announced that after his appearance in Justice League Ezra Miller's Flash would be getting his own solo move called Flashpoint. However, since then the film has suffered more then one delays and changed directors a few times, plus there was a controversial video of Miller seemingly attacking a woman. But it now seems that the film is back on track and hopefully this is the first of many exciting casting additions for the film.

Keaton will be working for both DC & Marvel

Keaton was an iconic Batman in his two roles and for the most part was seen as a success. Many years later he took up the role as The Vulture in Spider-Man Homecoming. What is suprising about this as we know he is set to have as role as Vulture in the film Morbius next year, so you would believe Marvel have future plans for the character. So it could be that Keaton will do both DC and Marvel projects at similar times which isn't seen very often.

It feels like a way to get rid of Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck did a great job as Batman, but we know he doesn't have any interest in reprising the role. We also know that Robert Pattinson's Batman will be a standalone character like Joker was last year, but this universe needs a Batman. By introducing Keaton's Batman using the Flashpoint story it gives the DCEU a chance to move on from Affleck while having Batman still in this universe.

Keaton's Batman can be the DCEU'S Nick Fury

One thing that the DCEU has missed is having the character that connects the film like Marvel Studios has Nick Fury. They did this a bit with Affleck but Keaton gives them a larger chance of this and a more experienced hand could be seen as an interesting choice to possibly even lead a future Justice League film.

Overall, this is pretty exciting news and has me more excited for The Flash film then I was before.
