James Mangold confirmed as the director of Indiana Jones 5 and why it is a perfect fit

Yesterday big news came out of Hollywood as film producer Frank Marshall confirmed that director James Mangold will be taking over the untitled new Indiana Jones film coming in the future. Here I give a few reasons why I think this is a perfect fit for this film.

He picks his projects wisely and has made some great films

If you look at Mangold's directorial history there isn't too many credits but that is because he only picks projects he thinks he can make a great movie out of it. He has directed The Wolverine which I enjoyed, and done the brilliant Logan & Ford V Ferrari which was nominated for Best Picture at The Oscars so he has the credentials to take on this franchise.

Logan is his prep work for this film

We saw in Logan he took on the character of Wolverine as an older hero who is worn down by his years of action and this can provide him a great template for this film. Harrison Ford is towards the end of his time in the role so Mangold could provide him a great ending like he did for Hugh Jackman in Logan.

The franchise needs new life after Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Now I don't hate Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull as much as most but it was clear that it was a huge step down from the other films in the franchise and was the end of Steven Speilberg's time as director of the films. But with this new vision and positive mood in terms of director it could provide this franchise with a shot in the arm that it needs.

The untitled Indiana Jones 5 is set to come ot in July 2022 but due to the pandemic it is likely to get moved back so we are not sure exactly when we will get the chance to see this film.
