Ranked: Star War Films

Ranked: Star Wars Films

So I have now watched all of the Star Wars films so I have now decided why not rank them, this is my own opinion for these films and these will probably feature some spoilers for the films mentioned.

12. Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (1999)

Star Wars - The Phantom Menace - 1999 - Original Movie Poster ... This film was one of the most hyped of all time but it is a pretty bad film. Apart from the podrace & the final lightsaber battle there isn't really much worth seeing here and I believe this was a big missed opportunity for the start of a great prequel film.

11. Star Wars: Episode 2 - Attack Of The Clones (2002)

Star Wars Episode 2 "Attack of the Clones" (61cm x 91,5cm) + a ... A slightly better film, with some higher stakes and a better performance by Ewan Mcgregor, his story arc is the most interesting part of the film and it starts The Clone Wars. The romance between Padme and Anakin is really badly handled in this film and it hurts the film as it takes up so much time here.

10. Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie (2008)

Star Wars - The Clone Wars [DVD] [2008]: Amazon.co.uk: Matt Lanter ... The forgotten film in Star Wars was the start of the clone wars show portrayed as a movie. This film did some good things like introducing Ashoka & Rex who after watching the 7th season of the show is a great thing. But it really feels like a few TV episodes put together and the style of this film is nowhere near the level that it would become in the future.

9. Solo A Star Wars Story (2018)

Solo: A Star Wars Story Poster Gallery | StarWars.com A film that gets more hate then it deserves, it was a fun smuggling adventure showing the origin of Han Solo in a world with entertaining characters. If the story was more complex and treated the character of Han Solo with more respect then this film could have been even higher on the list.

8. Star Wars: Episode 8 - The Last Jedi (2017)

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017) - IMDb A very controversial film amongst the fandom here but I overall like The Last Jedi, great performances by the main characters and some interesting story arcs but there is definitley some issues. The whole Casino story line and a weaker script hold this film back from being a more unique film as it is trying to be that.

7. Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge Of The Sith (2005)

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith - Wikipedia This was the big one, the end of the prequels where Anakin Skywalker transitions into the evil Darth Vader. Now this film is much better then the other prequel films and I think it actually handles the conclusion very well, it just feels like the story is a little rushed and the awful dialogue is there from the other films but overall this a good film with some truly standout moments.

6. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Rogue One - Wikipedia A fantastic film seeing a team of misfits attempting to steal the Death Star plans. I love how this feels like a true war film, the different personalities really work and the links to A New Hope are great. Plus this includes a truly memorable Darth Vader scene seeing him slaughter Rebels which is a huge plus. Apart from a pacing issue mainly in the first 30/40 minutes this film kept me interested and did some really unique stuff with one of the best endings I have seen in a film in recent memory.

5. Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise Of Skywalker (2019)

Lionbeen Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker - Movie Poster 70 X 45 cm ... We now go to the last film in the franchise at the moment and another one that is quite controversial but one I really enjoy aswell. I thought it did a great job with the characters and some good performances. I liked most elements of the story and thought it was just a really fun and memorable blockbuster to watch that I think ends these characters journey in an interesting way.

4. Star Wars: Episode 6 - Return Of The Jedi (1983)

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) - IMDb We get to the end of the original trilogy here and a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy. The characters are still great and the showdown between Luke, Vader & The Emperor is one of the greatest moments in film history, if this film didn't have the Ewoks it would be pushing the top 3 closer for sure but overall a truly fantastic film.

3. Star Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope (1977)

Star Wars Episode IV - A New Hope - Vintage Movie Posters The one that started it all, the original Star Wars film and this is just an epic film to watch. It starts the franchise off and builds the universe brilliantly, it introduces us to some really memorable film characters and has some truly memorable action scenes. The story would be used many times after but was revolutionised in this film and handled incredibly well, it sets the stall very well and builds a huge franchise off of it.

2. Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens (2015)

Star Wars The Force Awakens One Sheet Maxi Poster: Amazon.co.uk ... Now putting this above the original film might be a bit controversial but I can't stress how much I love this film. I thought it did a great job introducing us to a group of great new characters while I think using the original characters very well aswell. It felt like a new type of Star Wars film and having many interesting Story bits with great action scenes really makes this film stand out for me as being a modern Epic blockbuster.

1. Star Wars: Episode 5 - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back Movie Film A3 Poster / Print ... What other film could it be, for those that don't know me that well this is my favourite film of all time. It handles every character very well and the different arcs with Luke and Yoda and Han and Leia feels very natural and pretty well balanced. Vader really grows in this film and he is a truly intimidating villain that puts the fear into everybody he comes across obviously with the greatest reveal in any film ever period.

Overall

Overall, the Star Wars films vary from Epic to bad and I believe there is more highs then lows in this franchise and it is easily one of the best of all time.
