Opinion - Why Better Call Saul Season 6 does not need Walter White or Jesse Pinkman

Opinion - Why Better Call Saul Season 6 does not need Walter White or Jesse Pinkman

So ever since Better Call Saul Season 5 finished the rumours have resurfaced that the sixth and final season of the show will see appearances by the main characters of it's parent show Breaking Bad - Walter White played by Bryan Cranston and Jesse Pinkman played by Aaron Paul. I am now going to explain the reason that I believe this is unnecessary and these characters are not needed. There will be spoilers for Breaking Bad, El Camino & Better Call Saul below so if you haven't watched either show or the movie then I wouldn't read this.

Both of there Characters Journeys are over

My biggest reason for not wanting either character to appear here is that both characters arcs have ended. Walter's ended in Breaking Bad, his greed overcame in and he lost everything, his last act was to save Jesse from the nazis, but his death was confirmed in El Camino and it felt right for the character. We then go to Jesse's ending in El Camino, he finally manages to escape his life of crime and start over in Alaska, even though he did terrible things he was always the most sympatheric character so it was a nice ending. So for that reason I just don't care to see any of these characters even though this is a prequel show.

There are other Breaking Bad characters with more interesting stories

I think so far Better Call Saul has done a great job with it's Breaking Bad characters which is another reason for not seeing White and Jesse. Gus & Mike have been a key part of the show for a few seasons and their story is one of the most interesting there is, the show has done a wonderful job with these characters that I don't want to see the shine taken off of them.

The Better Call Saul Characters deserve their ending

This show has never been afraid of it's Breaking Bad roots, but what it has done is create some truly brilliant original characters who deserve the spotlight and a fitting ending deserving of them. Kim. Nacho & Lalo are some of the best characters on any show, and the fact that we have no idea what happens to their characters make them probably the most interesting aspects of the show.

It would be a huge disappointment

I love Season 5 of Better Call Saul but the biggest letdown was the return of Hank from Breaking Bad. He was heavily hyped before the show but he barely appears and does very little on the show making you truly wonder why he was bought on. I feel like it would be the same for these characters and it would feel like just fan service.

Overall

Overall, if we saw Walter White and Jesse Pinkman as a fan of Breaking Bad it would be a nice moment but from an overall perspective I think it would be a mistake. Luckily I think the people running the show understand this as they have not put any weight into these rumours.
