Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 1 (2021) Trailer Review

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 1 (2021) Trailer Review

So amongst the big news last night Disney released a small trailer for their upcoming Clone Wars spinoff Show The Bad Batch. The Bad Batch are a group of modified Clones who were introduced in the final Season of The Clone Wars and were a big hit, so now we get to follow their journey after the formation of The Empire and here are my thoughts on the trailer.

This show gives us our first look at the formation of The Empire

One thing that has been largely ignored in Star Wars Canon is the formation of The Empire. We see there invention in Revenge Of The Sith but then we don't see anything till Solo A Star Wars Story which already sees them well established. This show really has a great opportunity to see how The Galactic Republic really formed into The Empire and how it affected The Galaxy and the inhabitants in it.

The Bad Batch will be working for The Empire at first

Due to there special skills it has been theorised whether The Bad Batch would be affected by Order 66 and it is hard to tell here. They clearly have there personalities but they are seen working for Grand Moff Tarkin who is in his Imperial uniform, confirming that at least at some point they will be working for The Empire.

Though it seems they will turn on The Empire

Though it does seem like they see the light and end up turning on The Empire with them coming up against fellow Clone troopers. They are also shown visiting Kamino, maybe they are trying to find out more about the inhibitor Chips as this was where Fives found out about it in Season 6.

We could see the groups origins

There are also a few scenes of the group members fighting droids, now it is well known that once The War finished the droids were mostly destroyed so could this part be set during the war and show just how the members of The Bad Batch come together.

Fennec Shand is in this show

Maybe the biggest thing to come out of this trailer is that The Mandalorian character Fennec Shand is on this show. It shows the first time that a character originally made for that show has crossed over to another show though I doubt it will be the last. You wonder whether she will be an antagonist as despite her friendly nature in recent Mandalorian episodes she was a ruthless Bounty Hunter and could go after The Bad Batch for The Empire, hopefully Ming-Na Wen can do the voice despite it being a younger version of the character.

Overall

Overall, The Bad Batch were a highlight of the final season so I am looking forward to seeing more of them and hopefully this show can fill The Clone Wars/Rebels hole that has been there recently.
